What Earrings Look Best On Long Hair?

· ·

When it comes to accessorising with earrings, ladies with short hair may have more fun as ear lobes and neckline are laid bare, leaving the earrings to create a statement.

But that doesn’t mean those with long tresses have any less excitement! With long hair, you have the possibility to change your look anytime. Tie your hair up to expose the neck and collarbone and you get the perfect blank canvas for your accessories to do the talking. And if you choose to wear your tresses loose, longer or larger earrings peek out from under your hair for subdued charm and a pop of colour.

When choosing earrings, one is spoilt for choice with the myriad of designs. Earrings can be broadly categorised into 7 types: Studs, teardrops, dangles, hoops, clusters, chandeliers and Huggies (not the brand of baby diapers, but tiny hoop earrings that cling onto your earlobes so much so that they appear to be hugging your ears). So, depending on how you wear your long locks, the different types of earrings accentuate your look differently.

Up or down?

Up, up and away: If you’re the kind who can’t stand hair in your face and you constantly wear your hair up and out of the way, the best earrings that will frame your facial features are dangles. Dangle earrings, chandeliers, hoop and teardrop earrings help bring attention to your face and can give the impression of a slender, elongated neck.

Downright relaxed: For those who prefer to wear your hair loose and flowing, cluster earrings are your best bet as they do not get entangled in your hair as easily. Be sure to at least tuck your hair behind one ear to give your pretty earring some air time!

Can I wear stud or small earrings with my long hair?

Whatever makes you happy is my answer! That said, the size and colour of the earrings are important considerations especially if you are wearing your hair open and down. You wouldn’t want them to go unnoticed especially if they are a good looking pair of earrings, would you?

If you are wearing a really small pair of studs, my tip is to try on a pair with a pop of colour or a brilliant sparkle. Small ear candies like simple hoop earrings or Huggies with stones or pearls will really work better than a neutral coloured pair of stud, so they don’t get lost in a sea of hair.

Bringing out your best facial features

Earrings are meant to bring out your best features, and though hair lengths may dictate your choice of earrings to some extent; the earrings you pick out for the day truly depends on what it makes you feel, how it complements your attire and makeup, and whether it accentuates your face shape and bring out your best facial features. At the end of the day, I always fall back on the best advice, which is to find the perfect pair of earrings according to your face shape.
