March Birthstone: Bloodstone
Meet Bloodstone
Bloodstone is a type of quartz containing green jasper and spots of red iron oxide. Needless to say, this healing stone got its (morbid) name from the blood-like resemblance of red inclusions on its green surface. Because of its protective properties, Bloodstone was used by the ancient Babylonians to make talismans and amulets. It’s also revered as a warrior stone as it is said to increase the courage of its wearer. Treasured not only as a talisman of good health and long life, Bloodstone was reputed to bring good fortune, power and wealth to its wearer.
Known as: The stone of Courage, The Warrior stone
Physical Healing Properties
Bloodstone is known as an immunity strengthener. Wearing or keeping a piece of bloodstone near is believed to clear one’s lungs, rid congestion, aid blood in clotting after a wound and neutralize toxins in the body. If you are suffering from sluggishness, this purifying stone can enhance your physical vitality and boost energy levels.
Mind & Spirit Therapeutic Powers
Bloodstone has come to represent bravery and provides emotional support in times of adversity; enabling one to move forward with strength, courage and determination. Bloodstone is great for stimulating enthusiasm and combating low energies. This emotionally-calming stone also enhances decision-making as it encourages self-confidence and discourages mental confusion.
Did you know…
Bloodstone was used in ancient times as an amulet in the belief that it could stop bleeding, in particular, nose bleeds!
Great For
Bloodstone is great for raising enthusiasm and keeping out negativities that might be in the way of decision-making. For those who are constantly lethargic and low on energy, Bloodstone may be able to provide emotional support and instil courage and strength to move forward.
Bloodstone In Your Jewellery
Interestingly, feelings of emotional anxiety can be relieved by some form of physical weight pressure (think about feeling calm and protected under a blanket in bed). If you are thinking of Bloodstone in your jewellery, it should ideally give you a sense of weight - such as a slightly heavier pendant or ring, or earrings that pull on your ears comfortably.
