Find Out What Your Face Shape Is With This Quick Guide

· ·

I'm sure everyone would have wondered about our face shape at least once in our lifetime. Am I a heart-shape or a diamond-shape?

Every face shape is beautiful, you just have to play up your features with the right accessories!

Sometimes, a few characteristics of a face can reveal a specific face shape. For example, prominent cheekbones are commonly associated with a diamond-shaped face, and a round face will have a less pronounced jawline. As you look in the mirror, taking mental notes of your face contours and angles can also help you arrive at your face shape conclusion.

If you’re still not sure, here’s a quick face guide to help you get started.

Before you get measuring, tie your hair back and get hair off your forehead to reveal your entire face. Use a hair band if you sport a short hairdo.

Next, face a mirror and arm yourself with a measuring tape. (Or, you can take a selfie of your face and draw lines on the image to help you determine your face shape.)

  1. Cheekbones: Place your measuring tape across the top of your cheekbones. Measure from the outer corner of one eye to the outer corner of the other eye.
  1. Forehead: Determine the widest points on your forehead. The widest points are usually halfway between your hairline and your eyebrows. Measure that width from hairline to hairline.
  1. Face: From the middle of your hairline, measure down to the tip of your chin.
  1. Jawline: Find the widest part of your jaw. This will be an inch below the bottom of your ear. Measure from this point to the tip of your chin, then multiply by two to get the combined length of your jawline.

Once you have your measurements, read on to find out what your face shape is!

Oval:

You have a most versatile face shape for any earrings! An oval face will likely have a face length approximately 1.5 times the width of the cheekbones, with rounded instead of angular jaws. Almost any earring style will look great on an oval face! Lucky you!

Square:

A square-shaped face has similar widths across the forehead, cheekbones and jawline. The jaws are strong and squared. Opt for simple earrings such as a pair of hoop earrings when putting together a look.

Oblong:

An oblong face is characterized by a longer face length, while the widths of the forehead, cheekbones and jawline are similar. Oblong faces tend to have prominent jawlines. Bold statement pieces and bigger earrings can bring an illusion of fullness to an oblong face.

    Round:

A round face has equal measurements all around and doesn’t taper towards the chin. The angle of the jaw is also much less defined than other face shapes. To balance a round face, go for longer dangling earrings, drop earrings or elongated geometric-shapes. These are perfect to sharpen the fullness of a round face.

    Diamond:

Prominent cheekbones are telling of a diamond-shaped face. This face has a pointed chin and is widest at the cheekbones. Typically, the narrow forehead and jawline are about equal widths, while the face length is the longest. Drop and dangle earrings complement diamond-shaped faces beautifully.

    Heart:

A heart-shape face has a pointed chin with a narrow jaw and wider cheekbones and forehead. The forehead measures wider than the cheekbones or jawline. Confused between a heart-shaped and a diamond-shaped face? The difference is that heart-shaped faces have wider foreheads. Earrings that highlight the cheekbones can be very flattering for heart-shaped faces.

    Triangle:

A triangle-shaped face has a wider jawline and a narrower forehead. The jawline measures more than the cheekbones, which is also wider than your forehead. With triangular faces, choose earrings that are round to play out your facial aesthetics. Drop and dangle earrings work very nicely too for this face shape.
