February Birthstone: Amethyst
Meet Amethyst
Purple has long been a colour affiliated with regality, wealth and status; and the gorgeous Amethyst has enchanted kings and queens for centuries. Amethyst got its name from the Greek word amethystos, which translates to “not intoxicated”. Because of its grape-like colour, the Greeks associated these purple gemstones with the wine god, Bacchus. The Greeks believed that wearing amethyst jewellery kept the wearer clear-headed. Amethyst promotes clarity and invites harmony in your relationships and prosperity to your life.
Known as: The stone of Clarity, Healing
Physical Healing Properties
Amethyst is a natural purifying stone and can strengthen the immune system. It can help speed up recovery from an illness as it is said to ease the stress that blocks recovery from an ailment. It is particularly useful for issues associated with the respiratory tract and lungs, digestive system and can be effective for cell regeneration and skin conditions. Amethyst is also well known to be a stress reliever, keeping one calm and level-headed.
Mind & Spirit Therapeutic Powers
As a stone of clarity, Amethyst promotes clear thought. It helps you to surface suppressed feelings and facilitate a more honest and open communication. Because it is known to aid sobriety (either preventing drunkenness or helping to think more clearly), Amethyst is a wonderful stone to calm the mind and bring focus and awareness to one’s surroundings.
Did you know…
Amethyst is known as the stone of the Patron Saint of Love, Saint Valentine - who wore an Amethyst ring engraved with the image of his assistant Cupid. (Aww...cute!)
Great For
For those who are easily stressed or anxious, Amethyst helps to balance mood swings, soothe irritability and dissipates fear, loss, grief and anger. Amethyst can help convert negative thoughts into positive ones, and help the wearer find tranquility. It also activates spiritual awareness by enhancing one’s intuition.
Amethyst In Your Jewellery
Amethyst can cleanse a person’s aura and is perfect to use as earrings or as a necklace close to the heart. If you're an Amethyst lover looking for accessories with this purple beauty in it, here is a faceted Amethyst pair of earrings from my creation.
